About Us
Mission and Purpose
The Laconia Historical and Museum Society is a non-profit organization operating as a 501(c)(3) entity, dedicated to preserving and interpreting the rich history of Laconia, Lakeport, and the Weirs in the state of New Hampshire.
The Society is committed to preserving the history of Laconia through multifaceted initiatives such as building comprehensive collections, sharing captivating stories, and conducting in-depth research. LHMS serves as a valuable resource for local historical preservation and knowledge dissemination and offers community education through public programs, engaging presentations, and community events.
Our focus extends to the three Laconia Piscataqua plantations and the significant population centers of downtown Laconia, Lakeport, and The Weirs. To achieve our mission, we curate archival materials, an array of everyday artifacts, as well as fine and decorative arts. Furthermore, LHMS actively shares Laconia’s story through thought-provoking exhibitions, enlightening educational programs, vital community services, and thoughtfully crafted publications.
The Society’s role in preserving relevant materials through careful research, comprehensive documentation, and responsible conservation plays a crucial part in safeguarding Laconia’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.
